Word has only recently reached me of the passing of a dear old gentle soul, Garth Maxwell at the age of 92. I had the distinct pleasure and privilege of working alongside Garth many moons ago when he introduced me to the intricate world of stage lighting. At that time, Garth was the sole lighting person for FAMS, the top amateur theatrical company in Sydney, Australia, and he was in dire need of an assistance. Volunteering to take that role enabled me to delicately side step the kind offers of various company members for me to become a cast member.
Over a few years, Garth and I formed a comfortable bond, our friendship being of the master and apprentice kind. All in all, I spent a wondrous 10 years or so with FAMS, and I could not have asked for a happier introduction to the magical world of stage production than at the feet of Garth. You have taken your last curtain call, old friend. Time for you to put your feet up and take a well earned rest. Rest in Peace. Love from y
