A CALL TO ARMS!
There are approximately 78.2 million owned dogs in the United States alone (statistics compiled from the American Pet Products Association 2011-2012 National Pet Owners Survey): * Thirty-nine percent of U.S. households own at least one dog * Most owners (60 percent) own one dog * Twenty-eight percent of owners own two dogs * Twelve percent of owners own three or more dogs * On average, owners have almost two dogs (1.69 percent) * Twenty-one percent of owned dogs were adopted from an animal shelter Yet many of us dog lovers are either unaware of, or choose not to recognize the insidious growth in this country and worldwide of the horrific blood sport of dog fighting. Dog Fighting is making a comeback in a big way in the U.S. It is estimated by some government sources that there are on average about 16,000 dogs killed each year in organized dog fights and that number continues to grow. The Federal Canine Sport Fighting Task Force reports that it is a growing problem in each and every state in the United States and fear that without the help of good citizens, the growth of the "sport" is not going to slow anytime soon. It is my hope that my soon-to-be-released book, THE PITS, will become yet another weapon to be used in the ongoing fight against dog fighting. I vow, here and now, that the greater proportion of any sales of THE PITS will be added to the coffers of organizations struggling to combat this vile sport. With YOUR help, and that of all your friends, we can reach out a helping and caring hand to those poor innocent animals being subjected to horrific trauma on a daily basis. Please spare a few seconds of your precious time to view the book trailer and give serious thought to adding your voice and support against this crime that could even be happening next door to you, or just down the street, or around the corner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM-RvXOMU3s On behalf of all dog lovers, but especially the innocent dogs who cry out for our help, I thank you for your time. Kind regards, Greg Smith http://gregsmith-writer.weebly.com/ Since completing the manuscript for THE PITS I've spent the majority of the time working on its prerelease promotion with some encouraging success. Now I have to begin working on its sequel but, more importantly, I'm beginning to feel the urge to return to historical fiction book THE ARCHER OF COED CADW. I've been writing it now for 3-4 years and would like to complete it this year. Wish me luck, but more, wish me perseverence.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/131/653/241/fight-against-dogfighting/ My soon-to-be-released book, THE PITS, should help open everyone's eyes to the abhorrent blood 'sport' of dogfighting. Regardless of the underlying message of my book, I hope you will also find my story entertaining. The topic of dogfighting chose me, I didn't choose it. I'm an animal lover, dogs especially, and when I stumbled across an article concerning this insidious blood sport a storyline immediately sprang to mind which gave me an avenue to spread the word and hopefully raise a movement against dogfighting. Please support me in this fight: Report Animal Cruelty If you think someone you know is abusing animals, you can help. The best thing you can do is report cruelty. Find out who is responsible for investigating and enforcing the anti-cruelty codes in your town, county and/or state. These people typically work for your local humane organization, animal control agency, taxpayer-funded animal shelter or police precinct. If you run into trouble finding the correct agency to contact, you should call or visit your local police department and ask for their help in enforcing the law. If your local police department is unable to assist, ask your local shelter or animal control agency for advice. To find contact information for your local shelter, visit the ASPCA's searchable database of nearly 5,000 organizations. |
